Kym Niles is a distinguished social entrepreneur, mentor, and holistic wellness advocate dedicated to enhancing Black representation in education and promoting mental health among Black youth. With a rich background in the wellness industry spanning over 15 years, Kym employs a comprehensive approach that integrates physical training, mental conditioning, and self-regulation to support overall wellbeing.
Having experienced the challenges of being labeled an “at-risk” youth, Kym transformed her adversity into advocacy. In 2016, she co-founded Selflove Youth Wellness & Empowerment, a collaborative partner with the Toronto District School Board. This organization focuses on equipping Black youth with essential tools and resources to bolster their mental health, navigate obstacles, and improve their educational outcomes
Kym’s flagship initiative, the Make Ur Mark: Resilience & Restoration workshop, reflects her passion for uplifting young people who, like her, have navigated life in unique ways. Each year, this program reaches thousands of students from elementary through post-secondary institutions, fostering visibility for Black professionals, showcasing diverse pathways to success, dismantling poverty biases, dispelling anti-Black racism myths, and establishing mentorship connections.
In her relentless pursuit of equity, Kym also established The Make Ur Mark Student Success Conference in partnership with George Brown College. This conference provides marginalized students with a transformative experience, allowing them to envision themselves in higher education. Participants engage in creative activities, receive mental health support, and access invaluable resources within a culturally affirming environment
Kym’s commitment to representation is further illustrated by her creation of the Black Canadian Pioneer wall, a landmark initiative at Weston Collegiate Institute, Toronto’s second-oldest secondary school, highlighting the contributions of Black Canadians.
Recognized for her leadership and impact, Kym has received numerous awards and has appeared as an expert on platforms such as Global TV, CBC News, CP24, CTV, and City News. A visionary leader, Kym Niles is driven by her mission “To leave you better than she met you,” as she continues to inspire and uplift the next generation.
